The 380 acres of the full tidal basin had to be cleared of
all oil field remnants: 64 oil wells were removed and capped and 27 miles
of pipes, 230 power poles, tons of machinery, brush and contaminated soil
were hauled out. In addition, several miles of maintenance roads were
leveled.
